Ammar has just rescued Michou from the little roof outside the bathroom. She got out because I left the window open and she pushed open the bathroom door and then of course she had to see what was out of that window.

Since we have been back home - we went away for a month - Michou has gradually warmed to me and is more affectionate than ever but Mau backs off every time I try to get close to her. She's ok when she's sleepy and lets me have a stroke but that's it.

They are looking like adult cats now and they are only about 6 months. Soon they will be going to get their lady bits removed or whatever it is the vet does to neuter them.

I wonder if they have reached cat puberty? We are still letting them go outside but its getting colder and we've had rain so they can't go out often.

Latest news

Mau and Michou are getting bigger. They don't look like kittens any more. We tried them again with the collars last week and they are still wearing them.

They are definitely different personalities.
Mau is a bit more dominant and the one who starts the play fights. She is a bit of a jumper and can get a toy mouse that's been put onto the next to top drawer knob by jumping. Michou doesn't jump for the mouse at all. Mau seems a bit more scared of noises. She is slightly more aggressive and can bite and scratch a bit when you tickle her tummy but usually she lets you do that.

Michou is more adventurous. She had been out of the garden a couple of times now and has climbed on top of one set of fences. We have to be careful about this as she hasn't been neutered yet. Michou is more of a purrer, she starts almost as soon as you touch her. She likes to get hold of the cellophane that is outside my chewing gum boxes. She gets it in her mouth and makes horrid growling noises.

Both of them are becoming more lap friendly, but they have to choose to get onto a lap and will not stay if I put one of them on my lap.They like to explore the rooms and get into any tight spaces they find.

Collars

I bought an orange collar for the cat we were going to have called Fizz. It now belongs to Mau but she doesn't like it and Michou doesn't like her red collar. I think they are too young for them. I took a photo of each of them with their collar.

Curled up cats

The kitties are on my desk between the keyboard and the monitor. They are both asleep or pretending to be; curled up head to head.

They like to look at the screen and follow the cursor, but its not a good idea to let them put their paws on the screen.

They both went outdoors today. Very reluctant to really, Ammar tempted them with the pink ball on elastic. It did the trick. Mau wasn't too sure of the grass but Michou seemed to like.it.

Michou is becoming more friendly to me now and has even sat on my lap. Mau is using the litter tray now and not having accidents, we put a plastic bag on top of the accident spot and it seems to have worked.

The Felix cat food in pouches is almost finished so I need to find where I can get it for a good price.


The two of them are still very active, doing some par cour when the fancy takes them. I don't really want them climbing the walls but it's so amusing to see them running and jumping so long as they don't include me as a surface as their claws are out then.

Vet Visit

We took the kitties to the vet today to have their second vaccination. They mewed all the way to Kinver. They were very good when they were in the vet's hands. She asked me about them and I said that Michou had a bit of the runs so she suggested I buy some stuff to cure that - which was £10. She looked them over and took their temperature and said they were ok. Then came the injection. Well that went ok too for both of them.

The journey home was better, only Mau was mewing but she stopped eventually. When we got home I tried to get the medicine into Michou's mouth but was not very successful as she spat it out. So I rubbed it onto her nose after she had calmed down - the vet told me to do that. She licked it off and it went into her system. I have to do this twice a day. Ammar suggested putting it into her food but the vet didn't say this. I will do the rubbing onto the nose trick.

At the moment Mau is asleep in the place where I put my feet under my computer desk. Michou was asleep on the landing.

They have grown since I last posted. They are eating well and I think I'm getting the hang of when to clean out the litter trays. Mau was still using the outside of the tray until recently.

They are also getting more friendly. I have been examined closely by Mau when I was lying on the sofa one day. She got right up to my ear and started to lick it. They come onto the sofa in the evening and will come onto our laps for while.

The kitties have been here for nearly a week. We are gradually adapting to them and they to us. At first Mau (the tabby) wouldn't use the loo and was peeing in the wrong places. I read up about trying to train them and got some other sort of litter - the clumping kind, and another tray, a small one, and took her to it a couple of times and moved her paws in it. Anyway she started using  and Michou is using the large tray with the woody kind of litter. I am chief poo remover.

We gave them the wet food separated from the dry and found that Mau would eat it but not all of it - she left the lumps and just seemed to be eating the jelly so after a couple of days Ammar came up with the idea of mixing the wet and dry food - basically taking out the lumps and now they are both eating it.Bingo.

Ammar has squirted the water pistol at them a couple of times but it doesn't seem to be working. Its supposed to eliminate unwanted behaviour. The unwanted behaviour is climbing the walls and sticking their claws into the wallpaper. But they are still doing it. They race around the room faster than dervishes. Where do they get that energy? Its very amusing to watch as they play fight and jump and roll around.

Michou is making a funny little noise sometimes, not a miaow. They both purr when they are tired and lying down and being stroked. So far they are not lap kittens but I got Mau onto my lap once and she was sleeping but they are very independent.

The kitties arrive

Today we fetched the kitties. Julia rang yesterday and said they'd had the vaccination. At the vet's Mau was found to be a girl - someone thought she was a boy - so I've got what I wanted; two female kittens.

They haven't eaten or drunk much since they've been here but they are still getting used to the new surroundings. Ammar has worn them out by playing with them with a stick and a ball attached to it by string.

They have taken to the homemade 'climbing frame' and Mau was even falling asleep on it. Michou was more interested in going to sleep on the back of the sofa.

Disappointment

Today I had a phone call from Julia, who is looking after Mau and Michou. She told me that they couldn't have their vaccinations done today and so we can't fetch them tomorrow. Never mind, perhaps Mau will be toilet trained by the time we get him and Michou.

Yesterday we went to Merry Hill and bought a scratching post for them and a little ball. Ammar has assembled the post and it's ready to go.I hope we don't have to wait too long before they can come to us.

Saw some lovely little cat beds at the pet shop - can't remember the name of them but they look like duffle bags. I would love to buy them for the kitties.

I have found the site for these beds and I tried to put the picture onto this blog but it doesn't work. I will have to take a pic of one at the shop. The firm who make them are called Cleo Pet  and can be found at

Getting ready

We are getting ready to welcome our two kittens Michou and Mau. The floors have been cleaned and vacuumed. We have got food for them, some toys, a cat loo and litter and a carrier. Ammar has made an interesting climbing frame from an old wooden wine rack, a block of wood and a doormat. We are hoping they will scratch on the doormat.

We will collect Michou and Mau on Friday at 4.
